President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick claims he played a pivotal role in the discovery of Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, Ese Brume.
Recall that Brume won Nigeria her first medal at the just concluded Olympics in the long jump event, before Blessing Oborududu won silver in wrestling to ensure that Team Nigeria returned home with two medals.
While the duo have been widely celebrated across the country for their feat, Pinnick who is ‘fulfilled with Brume’s career progression’ took credit for the athlete’s achievement.
Pinnick was particularly delighted at the performance of the multi-talented athlete, while expressing optimism that Brume would soar in the next edition billed for Paris.
“I am happy for Ese (Brume) because I played a role in her discovery and nurturing.
“I am fulfilled at her career progression and I believe she will be there in Paris in three years’ time to win the gold medal,” the FIFA Council member said.
Nigeria was placed 74th on the global table and 8th on African table at the end of the Summer Games which held from Friday, 23 July to Sunday, August 8, 2021.
