The Nigeria Football Association (NFF) are keeping a close eye on Kion Etete for a possible call up to the Super Eagles, according to Tottenham ‘insider’ John Wenham.
The 20-year-old centre forward who is born to a Nigerian father and an English mother, has been one of the biggest success stories from the Tottenham academy during the 2021/22 season.
Etete shone brilliantly on loan at Northampton Town in the first half of the campaign before Spurs sent him on loan to Cheltenham in January, and the striker made the step up to League One effortlessly, finishing with six-goal contributions in 13 appearances.
Although Etete’s spell at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium was interrupted by injury, he has done well enough to attract interest from Championship clubs ahead of next season, with Queens Park Ranger reportedly keen on signing the striker on loan.
Wrexham has now revealed that the Nigerian FA are weighing up a potential approach to Etete about playing for them.
“He’s 20 now and he’s never really had a look-in at any England Under 20 levels. It’s no surprise to me to hear Nigeria are interested in him. He’s got Nigerian parentage so he would be eligible for them,” Wrexham told Football Insider.
