Niger State House of Assembly has accused the state’s government of breaking appropriation laws and carrying out shady expenditures in the past year.
Therefore, it has constituted a seven seven-man ad-hoc committee to look into the state’s government’s expenditure as well as federal allocation accruing to the state and Internally Generated Revenue IGR.
Moving the motion that led to the constitution of the committee, a member representing Bosso constituency Abdulmalik Madaki observed that the state government had not been carrying out expenditure in accordance with the laid down law for the past one year.
The lawmaker who argued that such expenditures lacked transparency, stressed that yearly estimates and expenditure by law ought to have been laid before the Assembly in accordance with the provisions of section 123 subsection (1) of the 1999 constitution as amended.
He therefore insisted that elected officials and representatives of various constituencies must not shy away from their duty of putting the executive arm of Government in check to ensure effective service delivery to the people.
