Celebration of Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary kicked off with photo exhibition on Monday, with the walls of the National Press Centre adorned in a rich and well-detailed photo gallery showcasing memorable events and prominent Nigerians who have contributed to the glory of the nation in different walks of life such as academics, sports, politics and entertainment.
A tour around the exhibited pictures makes the younger generation have a taste of the past and brings back memories to the minds of the older generation especially those who witnessed some of the displayed histories.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha who declared the event opened, said the exhibition displayed series of developmental strides Nigeria came through to get to where it is today and enjoined Nigerians to take a tour around the pictures to be well informed.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed whose ministry is hosting the exhibition, explained that the theme of the event “60 Years of Independence”, was carefully chosen to reflect the unity and cultural heritage of Nigeria.
Chairman, Members of the Ownership Sub-Committee of Nigeria @ 60 Project, Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunmba Richard Adebayo who was represented by Alhaji Babagana Alkali, said the committee was mandated to stir up participation towards the celebration of Nigeria’s diamond anniversary in recognition of the country’s cultural and industrial heritage.
The highlight of the event was a cultural dance display by the National Youth Service Corps cultural troupe.
