At least ten students of Government Day Secondary School in Awon, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, North West Nigeria, were on Monday taken into hostage by suspected terrorists, authorities have announced.
Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Aruwan announced that the state government received the information in a preliminary reports on kidnapping from security agencies in the state.
Boko Haram fighters, a terror group affiliated to ISIS had for years abducted children from schools in Kaduna and across the North West and North East states.
The Islamist group preaches against Western education, which they say is abominable.
Aruwan said, “The Kaduna state government has received preliminary reports from security agencies on the kidnapping of about 10 students in Kachia Local Government Area.
“According to the preliminary reports, the students of Government Secondary School, Awon (a day secondary school) were kidnapped on Monday.
“The exact location of the incident is yet to be ascertained but detailed reports being awaited will clarify whether the incident occurred within the school premises or elsewhere.
“The government will issue a public statement accordingly, when these reports are received”.
In 2014, hundreds of girls were kidnapped from Government Secondary School Chibok, Borno State. Till date scores among the number have not been accounted for.
Despite repeated claims by authorities that the terror group has been defeated, they keep claiming responsibility for several abductions and killings in Nigeria’s Northern region.
