Young Nigerian anti-corruption activist and CEO of Connected Development (CODE) Hamzat Lawal, has charged young Nigerians to build strategic “bridges” and relationships to form a strong network of allies across various strata of society.
Hamza gave this charge on Thursday in Abuja at an Appreciation Dinner he organized for former Young Government Officials, most of whom served under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He commended them for using their various positions to create pathways for youths, and charged them not to relent in preparing themselves for the task of leadership ahead, adding that in no distant time, nature will compel the old generation of leaders to give way for them.
The activist further urged the new administration led by President Bola Tinubu to form alliance with young people, and provide opportunity for them to serve in various capacities of Government. This, he said, will create enabling environment for youths to contribute their quota to nation building.
In his brief remarks, Chairman of the Nigerian Young Professionals (NYPF) Moses Siloko Siasia, further reiterated the need for young people to build strategic and robust networks across board. This, he said, is what leadership is all about.
He thus charged young professionals who will be privileged to get appointments under the new administration to endeavor to carry others along.
Earlier in his keynote address, Dr. Joe Abah, former Head of the Bureau for Public Sector Reform (BPSR), urged young government appointees to always strive to leave the system better than how they meet it.
He noted that most appointees come out of government “bitter” because they entered with a mindset to change things overnight, a feat that is mostly not achievable.
