Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Abdullahi Adamu and his deputy, Abubakar Kyari have formally resigned from the Senate.
The resignation letters of Adamu and Kyari were read at plenary today (Tuesday) by the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan.
Senator Adamu, until his election as National Chairman of the APC, was the lawmaker representing Nasarawa West as well as Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.
Kyari, on the other hand, was lawmaker representing Borno South and Chairman of the Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Recall that Adamu and Kyari emerged National Chairman and Deputy National Chairman (north) of the APC at the party’s National Convention on March 26.
The duo in their separate letters said their action became necessary to enable them focus on their job as leaders of the ruling party.
Having resigned as senators, the Senate President is expected to declare their seats vacant and send a communication to Nigeria’s electoral umpire, INEC.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct a by-election within a statutory period of three months to replace the two Senators.
