The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced the appointment of Rena Wakama as the head coach of the country’s Senior Women’s team mostly known as D’Tigress.
According to NBBF, Wakama who is from Rivers State signed a two-year contract.
D’Tigress, five-time African champions have been without a coach since Otis Hughley resigned from the post in 2022.
The former national team player is expected to quit her role as an assistant coach at the Stony Brooks University in the United States of America.
She played professional basketball in the United Kingdom.
Wakama also previously worked at the University of Western Carolina.
The Nigerian basketball side are the defending Champions.
They are pitched in group D along with Egypt and DR Congo at the upcoming 2023 Women’s Afrobasket tournament.
This year’s competition will be its 26th edition, and will be held from July 28 to August 6 in Kigali, Rwanda capital.
