The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared the Professor status of Nigeria’s Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as illegal, and has asked him to quit his position as Minister.
ASUU says it will also sanction the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), Prof Nnenna Oti and others involved in the conferment.
This was declared at a press conference addressed by the President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke on Monday.
“You cannot be a minister and a lecturer in a university. It is an encouragement of illegality.
“Pantami has to quit as a minister and be tried for doing double jobs within the same federal system. He is not qualified. Pantami should not be treated as a professor,” ASUU said.
Heritage Times had reported the controversies surrounding the Professorship status of the Minister, as well as his links with terrorism.
