A top Nigerian club Bayelsa United have confirmed the death of their goalkeeping coach, Ernest Teigbanyo.
The coach reportedly passed away on Thursday February 9, 2023, but the club couldn’t respond to Heritage Times HT when the medium reached out for confirmation.
However, the club, early Saturday morning in a tweet via its official Twitter handle, said the late coach died after a brief illness.
The club put up a tweet which reads, “Bayelsa United is extremely saddened by the report that our goalkeepers’ coach Ernest Teigbanyo has passed away after a brief illness.”
Before the latest incident, Nigeria football last week, lost another top official of the game, a NPFL referee, Kingsley Nnaemeke Eneogwe, who died in a road accident.
On the other hand, Bayelsa United have not fared well this current season on the table.
Their challenges on the pitch was compounded off the pitch after a fan reportedly attacked a referee in Yenagoa despite poor run of form.
Following the development, the club was fined by the country’s Interim Management Committee, that also deducted three points from them.
