The Nigerian government has begun preparations to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon as the Israel-Hezbollah conflict intensifies.
In a press release on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson Eche Abu-Obe, confirmed that the safety of Nigerian nationals in Lebanon is a priority.
The Nigerian Embassy in Lebanon had issued regular advisories, urging citizens to consider voluntary evacuation while commercial flights remain available. Those in the conflict-ridden southern regions have already been relocated to safer areas like Beirut in coordination with Nigerian community leaders.
However, the ministry assured that no Nigerian live have been lost since the conflict began, and that the government is working with stakeholders to ensure the protection and safe return of its citizens.
“Nigerian nationals in the South of Lebanon have also been evacuated to Beirut and other safer areas in collaboration with the leadership of the Nigerian community.
“It is pertinent to mention that no Nigerian life has been lost since the beginning of the conflict,” the statement read.
