The political future of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have been narrowed further, following the decision of Dr Dawari George, a strong ally of Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, former Nigerian Minister of Transportation to quit his membership of the party.
His letter of resignation which was addressed to the Chairman of APC Ward 1, ASALGA, Rivers State on Friday, read thus: “I wish to resign my membership of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
“May I also thank the leadership of the party and all her members for the opportunity and support given to serve the state and the country in different capacities during my time in the party.
“I will always cherish the friendship and brotherhood which enforced our camaraderie in the party.
“Please accept the assurances of my best regards.”
The exit of George who is one of the leading lights in Amaechi’s camp, comes as a big blow for the APC in the State, especially as the 2023 polls is fast approaching.
Dr George, a PhD holder in Political Economics and Development Studies and a former Commissioner for Energy in the State, is a political asset to the Rivers APC and commands a large number of followers.
His track records exemplifies him as an astute administrator, youth mobiliser and a key political player from the Niger Delta Region.
He was also a former Chairman of the reconciliation committee of the Rivers APC.
He is yet to announce his next party destination.
