Nigeria on Monday beat Cameroon 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-22) to win their first match at the ongoing 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball Championship in Abuja.
Nigeria lost its first match to Egypt last Saturday on Day 1 of the ongoing Championship.
Egypt Cruise Control, Cameroon Weeping Dog
On Sunday, Egypt qualified for the final of the competition after beating same Cameroon 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13) in a tense match played at the indoor sports hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium.
Cameronians started the game on a high note and velocity getting vital points off Egypt.
The Egyptian team used their second starting six in the first set which gave the Cameroon team an upper edge as they won by 25 to 23 points.
The Egyptian team resumed the second set looking more determined, leading the set by 5 points before Cameroon picked one point. Egypt maintained the momentum to win by 25 to 18 points.
The third was entertaining as both teams showed class with their defences from lose ball. Egypt and Cameroon were drawn in 20 to 20 points before the North African team took the third set 25 to 22 points.
In the fourth set, the Cameronian side made some tactical changes in the starting six to stop the Opposite player of the Egyptian which eventually paid off as they won by 25 to 22 points.
The North African side won the fifth by 15 to 13 points to maintain their unbeaten run at the ongoing 2023 Girl’s U17 African Nations Volleyball Championship.
