Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has now opened a football academy in Lagos, Nigeria.
Named ‘Burna Boy Football Academy’, the initiative, the initiator said, is aimed at nurturing the next generation of African football talents by providing a structured training programme for young athletes.
The academy offers training sessions three days a week, with each session lasting two hours.
In a separate development on Tuesday, Heritage Times HT reports that a rising footballer, Chisom Oodo, died during a match training session in Ogrute, a community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, South-east Nigeria.
The victim, according to a community leader, slumped during the training session and died.
The community leader identified as Chijioke Eze, said that there was suspicion that the footballer suffered cardiac arrest during the training.
Eze said the victim excelled during the Igbo-North Family Football Tournment recently held in December in the area.
The youth leader said following the outstanding performance at the tournament, the deceased was subsequently selected for trial at the Enugu Rangers Football Club.
“It was while he was participating in the training that this happened,” he said.
