The dream of suspended deputy commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force to breath the air of freedom has hit the rock, as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja the nation’s capital, again rejected DCP Abba Kyari’s bail application, fixing October 19 for commencement of trial.
Kyari who before now was the head of the police intelligence response unit along with four others are standing trial on offences bordering on drug trafficking filed by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite while ruling on the application for bail brought before him by the accused persons, noted that they have not tabled convincing reasons for the fresh application.
Kyari who is the first defendant was on March 7, arraigned alongside four suspended police officers including ACP Sunday Ubia, ASP James, Inspector Simon Agirigba and Inspector John Nuhu as 2nd to 5th defendants respectively for cocaine trafficking.
The judge therefore, reaffirmed his earlier ruling of March 28, 2022, ordering an accelerated hearing.
The suspects are to be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja, pending the commencement of their trial on October 19.
