The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, has announced the postponement of elections in 141 polling units in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Addressing journalists at the collation centre in Abuja, Yakubu explained that the electoral process was disrupted in Wards 4, 6, 8, and 14.
According to him, only 40 of the 141 polling units had materials intact.
He added that despite remobilising security, the INEC ad hoc staff expressed apprehension about going back to conduct the election, leading to the postponement of the election.
Speaking further, Yakubu disclosed that thugs attacked different polling units, resulting in the theft of at least eight BVAS machines in different parts of the country.
He, however, assured that backup BVAS machines were provided.
The INEC boss also acknowledged that voting was delayed in a part of Niger State due to an attack by bandits in the area.
Despite acknowledging the late arrival of electoral officials and materials in many polling units across Nigeria, Yakubu expressed optimism that the elections would proceed smoothly, and urged the public to remain patient and peaceful throughout the process.
