Ahead of expected final declaration of result after Presidential and National Assembly elections, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has revealed that state-by-state collation will start on Sunday February 26, 2023.
Prof. Yakubu revealed this on Saturday during a press briefing in the situation room of the INEC located inside the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Yabuku said the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), being the technological device deployed for voting worked well in most of the states across the country.
He however, said the electoral body experienced challenges in some parts of the country.
Yakubu said the challenge experienced was the inability of the Commission to open the polling units by 8:30 am as agreed in a number of polling units.
He also decried insecurity in some parts of the country, but assured that no Nigerian would be disenfranchised.
Heritage Times HT reports that elections which held in 36 states and capital city of the country on Saturday February 25, witnessed pockets of violence, resulting to huge disenfranchisement of eligible voters who already calling for bye-election in the affected areas.
Governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for March 11, 2023.
