Nigeria senior men’s Basketball team on Saturday February 25, 2023 edged Guinea Bissau 62-59 in the ongoing FIBA World Cup qualifying match in Luanda.
The Nigerians showed resilience at the final window in the 2023 FIBA African series to keep hope of picking a World Cup ticket at last.
The encounter was a hard-fought victory for the largely home-based dominated D’Tigers as they rallied from behind to ink an impressive victory over the Guineans.
Victor Ezeh and Daramola Micheal led the team onslaught with 16 points to turn the game in favor of Nigeria as they went into the final quarter eight points behind.
Nigeria won the decisive quarter with a massive 12 points to end the game 62-59 in their favor.
D’Tigers will play now against Angola on Sunday.
The team needs a victory over the yet-to-be-defeated Angolans and expects results elsewhere to go their way before they can achieve their ambition of qualifying for the World Cup.
The crisis which crippled Nigerian basketball had dealt a blow on their way to qualifying for the biggest FIBA organised showdown.
