Relief is on the way of the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, often referred to as “super cop” as an Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday granted his bail application.
Kyari, former head of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has been in detention since his arrest in 2022. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) accuses him of using his men to push drugs across Nigeria.
NDLEA declared suspended DCP Kyari wanted over his alleged involvement in a 25kg cocaine deal.
He was subsequently arrested and arraigned in a court, which ordered his remand in Kuje Prison, Abuja.
The presiding judge of Abuja Federal High Court, Justice Kolawole Omotosho granted the suspect bail under stringent conditions.
Kyari’s employer, the Nigeria Police had set up a panel to probe his conduct after which he was suspended and recommended for prosecution.
