Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) , has arrested and detained a former Minister of Power, Sale Mamman over alleged N22 billion fraud.
Mamman, who was the minister of power from 2019 to 2021, was arrested on Wednesday and taken into custody at the headquarters of the commission in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The former Minister’s arrest is reportedly not unconnected with his alleged role in corrupt execution of some power projects while he was in office.
The minister is alleged to have conspired with some officials of the ministry in charge of the accounts of the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects to divert N22 billion and fraudulently shared the sum among themselves.
The investigations said to have uncovered properties in Nigeria and overseas linked to the suspects, while millions of dollars and naira have reportedly been recovered.
