Barely seven months after her retirement as the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, South-South Nigeria, Justice Kate Abiri has passed away.
She died in the early hours of Thursday, a source authoritatively confirmed without giving further details on the circumstances surrounding the jurist’s death.
Abiri quit her role as Chief Judge of the oil-rich Niger Delta State following her retirement on January 13, 2023.
Late Justice Abiri holds the record as the longest-serving Chief Judge in Bayelsa State, occupying the role from 2008 to 2023.
She hails from Aleibiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area.
This came days after the judiciary announced the death of Justice Chima Nweze of the Supreme Court and Justice Peter Mallong of the Federal High Court.
Both judges, according to official statements, died of illness.
Nweze died on Saturday, while Mallong passed away on Sunday
