The immediate-past Governor of Kano State, North West Nigeria, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has been elected the National Chairman of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ganduje was elected by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja, along with former Senate spokesman, Ajibola Basiru who is now the National Secretary.
Their election at the 12th NEC meeting of the party follows the resignation of the former chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu along with the secretary, Iyiola Omisore on the order of the party’s leader and the President of the West African nation, Bola Tinubu.
The duo were accused of not supporting the President on the build up to the party’s presidential primary election which saw Tinubu emerge as flagbearer and the eventual winner of the presidential poll.
Addressing the 12th NEC of the party, the President said the APC has won the elections and it is now time to deliver the promises of good governance to the Nigerian people.
The President insisted that the 2023 elections was the best election in Nigeria’s history.
Ganduje in his acceptance speech thanked the President and promised that internal democracy would prevail in the party during his tenure.
The ex-Kano governor pledged to ensure a scientific register of party members and pay utmost attention to election management and conflict resolution.
According to him, there would be level playing field for all party members during party primaries.
Ganduje promised to hit the ground running to ensure victory for the party in all forthcoming governorship elections across the country.
Top leaders of the party, including the immediate-past President, Muhammadu Buhari, his Vice Yemi Osinbajo, the first National Chairman of the party, Bisi Akande were absent.
