Two Federation Cup final played in Nigeria on Saturday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Lagos, have churned out champions in the men and women categories.
Heritage Times HT reports that while El-Kanemi Warriors beat Abia Warriors 2-0 to emerge victorious for men, Rivers Angels edged Naija Ratels 1-0 to win for women.
Also, for El-Kanemi, it was the first time they clinched the coveted Cup in the history of their existence.
But experienced Rivers won it a record nine times, few weeks after missing out on the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title which Edo Queens surprisingly lifted in Yenogoa, Bayelsa state capital.
Surprisingly too, El-Kanemi, a northern club which played at the second tier Nigeria National League roundly defeated favourites Abia Warriors, a Southern side in the elite Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Later on, the men team winner were presented with a prize money of N50 million. Second placed Abia got N20 million.
The Maiduguri-based El-Kanemi that recently gained promotion from the NNL to the elite league will join Enyimba FC of Aba as two of Nigeria’s representatives at CAF Confederation’s Cup later in the year.
Rivers Angels smiled home with N25 million with runners-up getting N10 million for the women.
