The Rivers State House of Assembly chamber was on Sunday gutted by fire, an outbreak reported at about 10 p.m.
The development comes amid rumour of the plan to impeach the state Governorl, Similanayi Fubara.
According to sources, the arsonist was said to have gained entry into the chamber on Sunday night and set it ablaze.
Prompt intervention of the men of fire service in the state stopped the fire from spreading to the entire Assembly complex.
Attempts to get information from members of the House have proven abortive as the lawmakers kept mum over the fire outbreak.
No information was also obtained on the alleged plot to impeach the governor over a rift between him and his predecessor Nyesom Wike who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
