A final-year student of Federal University, Dutse Jigawa State, Aminu Muhammad who criticised Nigerian First Lady Mrs. Aisha Buhari has tendered an apology.
This comes barely 48 hours after he was released from custody following his arrest at his university campus on November 18 over a tweet which the wife of the President, Mrs. Buhari found offensive.
He had been arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of defamation brought against him by the First Lady and was remanded at Suleja Correctional Centre in Niger State.
His apology also follow withdrawal of the case by Aisha Buhari who had been criticised over the arrest, detention and arraignment of the undergraduate.
“I would like to use this medium to express my sincere apologies to those Il’ve hurt especially our mother, Aisha Buhari it was never my intention to hurt your feelings and insha Allah I will change for the better. However, I’m also grateful for your forgiveness, thank u mama”, he wrote at about 9:35pm on Saturday, Dec. 3.
He had on June 8 at the peak of strike by Nigerian university lecturers made a tweet which was accompanied by the First Lady’s picture which reads, “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi” which loosely translates as “Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full”.
Meanwhile, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on Aisha Buhari, to apologize and compensate Aminu Muhammad for detaining and arraigning him over the social media post.
The Ogun State Chairman of Joint Campus Committee (JCC) of the association, Comrade Kehinde Damilola Simeon in a statement on Saturday said the arrest and detention of their member for almost 2 weeks on the directive of Aisha Buhari was an abuse of power.
