The Abuja-Kaduna train on Friday derailed close to the Kubwa train station.
The development comes few days after the Warri-Itakpe Train Service derailed at km 30 Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
The cause of the latest derailment is yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
However, it has been confirmed that all passengers on board the train are safe.
The Manager, Abuja-Kaduna Train Service, Mr. Pascal Nnoli who confirmed the incident to newsmen, promised to issue a statement giving reasons why the derailment happened.
Why do trains derail?
Trains can derail for a variety of reasons. Some common causes include:
Track defects: Damaged or poorly maintained tracks can cause a train to derail. This can include issues such as worn rails, faulty switches, or missing bolts.
Mechanical failure: The train’s own mechanical components, such as wheels, axles, and bearings, can malfunction and cause a derailment.
Human error: Train operators can make mistakes such as exceeding the speed limit, misjudging a turn, or failing to properly maintain the train.
Natural causes: Weather events like heavy rain, floods, and landslides can damage tracks and cause derailments.
Sabotage or vandalism: Trains can be deliberately derailed by acts of sabotage or vandalism.
Overloading: carrying more weight than the train is designed to handle can cause a derailment.
It is worth noting that these are some of the common causes and that a derailment can be a result of a combination of factors.
