Militants have set fire on a yet-to-be-identified female senior citizen in Amagu Ihube Community, Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo state South East Nigeria.
The militants on Tuesday also reportedly raze down several homes, including that of Imo State commissioner for youths and sports, Emeka Okoronkwo.
Other torched include the country home of a former Dean of the Law Faculty of the Imo State University, Owerri, Nnamdi Obiaraeri, who served as Commissioner for information, youth and sports and land and urban planning, respectively during the administrations of former governors of the state, Ikedi Ohakim and Rochas Okorocha.
Police Public Relations Officer in-charge of the command, ASP Henry Okoye who confirmed the attacks said investigation has been launched.
He however added that no arrest has been made.
The separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been fingered for series of attacks in the South East region which has also seen several public assets and security formation destroyed.
The group has also threatened to disrupt the Saturday 25 Presidential election in the region, insisting that they want a separate state of Biafra Republic.
Sources told our correspondent that several other buildings, including the country home of a retired Director of Department of Security Service, Emeka Ngwu. The elderly woman was reportedly in Ngwu’s house when she was caught by the raging inferno.
