Dame Ibim Semenitari, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), is the latest ally of former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
In her resignation letter addressed to the Chairman, Ward 5, Okrika, the former NDDC MD thanked the APC leadership for the opportunities of service offered her and wished the party well.
Her resignation follows those of other high profile figures who in the last one week have resigned their membership of the APC in Rivers State.
It comes just days after Dr. Dawari George, another close ally of Amaechi, announced his decision to quit the party.
Meanwhile, sources say that the gale of resignations may not be unconnected with the party’s choice of multibillionaire and oil mogul Tonye Cole as its gubernatorial candidate.
Tonye Cole is regarded by many as being alienated from the politics of the state and completely detached from other members of the APC, as he is based in Lagos.
“The same man who now claims to have only Amaechi as friend of the Party, didn’t think he needed to use the last four years after the misfortune that befell the Party to warm himself into the hearts of members the Party. How can we in good conscience work for someone who is a stranger in our politics?”, a party chieftain queried.
According to a source, there are rumours that more resignations may befall the party in the coming days and weeks, as party faithfuls are displeased with the unfortunate turn of events within the fold of the APC in the state.
