Mr. Ademola Adeleke, an uncle to a Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, known by the stage name Davido, has been removed from office as Governor of Osun State, South West Nigeria.
He was removed by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo which annulled his victory following the July 16th 2022 governorship polls in the state.
The tribunal in a split judgement of two to one, ordered the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and issue the same to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
The majority judgement which was read by the Chairman, Justice Tertse Kume said Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314,931 against Adeleke’s 219,666.
Justice Kume explained that there was overvoting in six polling units during the election and maintained that, after the deduction of valid votes vast from the over-voting at these polling units, Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 314,931 while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Adeleke’s polled 219,666
