The Executive Secretary of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr. Simbi Wabote has been conferred with the “Oil and Gas Local Content Champion of the Year Award 2022.”
Engr. Wabote received the award on Tuesday during the Leadership Annual Conference & Awards 2022 held at the International Conference Centre Abuja.
The local content boss bagged the recognition – instituted by the Nigerian-based medium independent of political control – for championing the development of local content across Nigeria and the African continent and building local capacities in the oil and gas industry.
Leadership Group, in its formal announcement of Engr. Wabote’s selection and suitability for the recognition explained that the Executive Secretary NCDMB was found worthy of the award for championing the development of local content across Nigeria and the African continent and building local capacities in the oil and gas industry.
Other accomplishments referenced by Leadership Group include raising the level of Nigerian Content performance in the Nigerian oil and gas industry from 26 percent in 2016 to 52 percent in 2022.
It is added that under Engr. Wabote’s watch “the NCDMB developed a 10-year strategic roadmap with the key target of achieving 70 percent Nigerian Content in the oil and gas industry, creating 300,000 direct and indirect jobs and establishing hubs in-country for manufacturing of equipment, components and accessories required by the oil and gas and its linkage sectors.”
The Leadership Conference and Awards aims to promote and encourage excellent performance by deserving public servants and business leaders with a view to presenting awardees as models for society to emulate.

The Leadership Newspaper Oil & Gas Local Content Person of the Year 2022 Award will be making its way to a trove of recognitions that have mounted Engr. Wabote’s cabinet for his relentless efforts at initiating, regulating and catalysing new opportunities that engender value-adding activities in-country and on the African continent at large.
Barely eight months ago, the ES received the Vanguard Newspaper Regulator of The Year 2021 Award – instituted by the Nigerian-based newspaper independent of political control – for his “doggedness in delivering local content goals.”
Engr. Wabote was appointed as the Executive Secretary of the NCDMB by President Muhammadu Buhari on September 29, 2016.
In recognition of his excellent performance during the first tenure, he was reappointed for a second term by the President on September 25, 2020.
The NCDMB was established in 2010 by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act, with a core mandate to manage and grow Nigeria’s local content capacity. So far, it has lived up to its mandate.
