The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) on Saturday strongly rebuffed allegations circulating in a viral video about the quality of its petrol.
The video seen by Heritage Times HT, which compares the performance of MRS and NNPC petrol in small generators, claims that Dangote-refined petrol lasts longer.
In a statement on Saturday, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC Ltd’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, condemned the claims as baseless and unsupported by credible research. Soneye said, “The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd strongly refutes the false and misleading allegations made in a viral video circulating online, which claims that NNPC fuel does not last.”
He continued, “This assertion is baseless and entirely unfounded, originating from unverified and amateur research that lacks credibility, accuracy, and professional oversight.”
Soneye emphasized that NNPC fuel is “carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring optimal efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability for consumers.” He also clarified that a significant percentage of the petrol sold at NNPC stations in Lagos, where the video was created, is sourced from the Dangote Refinery, a “strategic partner in promoting local production and energy security.”
The statement warned that NNPC Ltd would pursue legal action against anyone found deliberately spreading misinformation. Soneye said, “We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to undermine our operations and mislead Nigerians. Those engaged in such malicious activities will be held fully accountable under the law.”
NNPC Ltd also urged the public to “disregard such fabricated content and rely on verified sources for accurate information,” reaffirming its commitment to providing Nigerians with “high-quality, affordable fuel while maintaining global industry standards.”
