Nigerians, especially sports enthusiasts woke up on Wednesday morning to the sad news of the death of a Youth and Sports Commissioner in Yobe State, Goni Bukar Lawan.
Lawan who died in a ghastly accident along Damaturu-Kano highway on Tuesday evening, Heritage Times HT gathered was on his way to the airport.
Confirming the incident, the zonal commanding officer, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), ACM Rotimi Adeleye, said the incident could have been caused as a result of loss of control by the driver.
Lawan’s death occurred after he attended the funeral of his friend, the Director of Finance and Supply of the Upstream of the NNPC (Nigeria National Petroleum Commission) Limited, Hassan Gambo, on Tuesday afternoon in Damaturu before embarking on an official trip to Kano where he was involved in the accident near Dambam a community in Bauchi State.
Late Lawan was a former member House of Representatives, who represented Bursari, Geidam, and Yunusari federal constituency.
He was the chairman House of Representatives Committee on Sports.
