Chairman of the Nigeria Young Professionals Forum (NYPF) Mr Moses Siloko Siasia has lauded Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri over his handling of the ravaging flood in the state.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Siasia said he was particularly impressed that the Governor shelved all engagements outside the state, including political campaigns to stay with his people in these trying times, an act that is uncommon among politicians.
The statement also noted with delight, the efforts made by the Governor so far to mitigate the effects of the flood, such as the approval and release of funds and his tour of flood impacted communities in the state almost on a daily basis. Siasia noted that by his actions, “he has proved that he has the true interest of his people at heart.”
According to the statement, the decision of the state government to set up a post flood management and rehabilitation committee headed by the State Deputy Governor, is a step in the right direction.
While adding his voice to the call on the Federal Government to assist the state in the recovery process, the former Bayelsa Governorship candidate also called on stakeholders and Bayelsans at large to close ranks and join hands with the state government to navigate the people through this difficult moment.
