Nigeria women basketball team, also known as D’Tigress will engage Senegal in the final of the ongoing 2023 Women’s Afrobasket tournament.
To reach the final, D’Tigress stamped out host Rwanda 79-48 in the one-sided semi-final clash at the BK Arena in Kigali on Thursday.
With the victory, the Nigerian team stormed to a fourth consecutive final since the 2017 edition and grabbed one of the two tickets allocated to Africa for the 2024 Pre-Olympic Games qualifiers.
They had won the three previous editions – 2017, 2019 and 2021.
Consistence Dominance
D’Tigress seized control of the game from start to finish securing a 22-6 win in the first quarter and by halftime, they continued their dominance by leading 44-18.
Despite the host showing enough zeal to pick up their performance in the third quarter, Nigeria dominated them by 58-35 before wrapping up the game in the final quarter with a well deserved 79-48 win.
D’Tigress has now extended their unbeaten run to 23 games.
The last time Nigeria lost a game in the Women’s Afrobasket was in 2015 against Cameroon in the semifinals.
