No fewer than 20 persons have been trapped under the rubbles following the collapse of a 4-storey building located in the Life Camp Area of Abuja, an eyewitness account says.
Many of those trapped are labourers at the construction site who were working when the structure suddenly caved in on Monday.
The building is said to belong to one of the leading hospitality firms in the city of Abuja.
Emergency responders, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have been deployed to commence rescue operation at the site.
Building collapse has become recurrent in major cities across the country with authorities not tightening regulations to halt the development.
Sub-standard materials and non-qualified personnel have been largely blamed for recurrent building collapse in the largest African country.
According to the report by the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG), no fewer than 61 buildings collapsed across the states of Nigeria in 2022.
According to the body, out of these structural failures, Lagos State recorded 20 incidents, representing 48.7 percent of the entire cases in 2022.
