Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Friday night failed to secure victory in their third qualifier outing ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
This is after both Nigeria and South Africa played a 1-1 draw inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The two goals came in both halves of the encounter with Nigeria’s Dele Bashiru scoring in his debut game.
The 23-year old player shortly after the second half started, connected a through ball and buried it at the low corner of the post to sent South African goalkeeper Williams the wrong way.
At the end of the matchday encounter, Nigeria on three points, are fifth on the log in Group C.
On the other hand, South Africa are fourth with four points.
Lesotho after defeating Zimbabwe away earlier on Friday lead the group with five points, while Benin Republic and Rwanda are placed second and third respectively.
The fourth round of the qualifiers will happen in three days time when Nigeria will face Benin Republic in Abidjan.
