The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 Nigerian general election, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to draw lessons from recent events in Kenya. He made this statement in response to the Kenyan citizens’ rally against proposed tax increases.
On Sunday, via his X account, Obi highlighted that the Kenyan public demanded change when they saw their leaders were not prioritizing resources effectively.
He criticized Nigerian political leaders for misusing public funds to hire media thugs to attack those who speak truth to power. Obi called on Nigerian leaders to abandon such practices and start making sacrifices for the benefit of the suffering masses.
“We, the Nigerian political leaders, should take a strong lesson from the recent Kenyan experience. When the Kenyan public realized that their government was not making sufficient sacrifices and prioritizing resources effectively, they spoke out and demanded change,” Obi stated.
He however emphasized that true progress requires leaders who are sincere, willing to listen, act responsibly, and prioritize the welfare of the people over personal or political interests.
“If we make the necessary changes and sacrifices, a new Nigeria is possible,” he said.
