Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have mounted the polling unit of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Alausa, Lagos just as Nigeria elects a new president and members of the National Assembly on Saturday.
The agency had deployed its officials to the 36 states of the federation and the FCT to monitor vote buying, inducement of voters and other financial malpractices as elections hold nationwide.
The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa had implored all personnel deployed for the assignment to demonstrate courage in the discharge of their functions.
The agency had on Friday intercepted the sum of N32,400,000 in Lagos, money the agency’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren alleged was meant for vote buying.
It is not clear why the EFCC officials stormed the presidential candidate’s polling unit, but it may not be unconnected with efforts to ensure that voters are not financially induced.
Tinubu is gunning to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, leader of the APC whose tenure winds down May 29.
