Protesters on Wednesday stormed Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos to register their grievances over police brutality and wanton killings of innocent youths in the country.
The memorial seeks to commemorate the historic #EndSARS Protests during which hundreds were killed while many more were maimed and unjustly imprisoned in their campaign against police brutality and bad governance.
The Commemorative protest was carried out despite warnings from the Lagos state Police Command that it would not tolerate any form of protest in the state.
Similarly, protesters stormed major streets in Abuja and Enugu, carrying different placards and shouting #EndSARS and police brutality in Nigeria.
Some on the inscriptions on their placards include: “We will never forget 20-10-20”, “EndSARS”, End Police Brutality and others.
In Lagos Folarin Falana aka Falz, Nigerian rapper, songwriter and Actor joined protester’s in the remembering those that allegedly died last year during EndSARS protests, while in Abuja, Omoyele Sowore, former Presidential candidate of the Africa Action Congress (AAC) and founder of an online news agency Sahara Reporters, was seen campaigning against police brutality.
As at the time of filling this report, Police have arrested two protesters at the Lekki tollgate. One of those arrested claimed to be a journalist, while the other was seen carrying a placard.
Activities lined up for the commemorative protest began with a Jumat service on October 15, at the Jumaat Suadr Central Mosque, Ojota, Lagos.
It was followed by traditional rites on October 16, at the New Afrika Shrine in Agidingbi, Lagos.
On October 17, a church service was held at the Lagos Christian Centre in Oregun, Lagos State.
Barring stiff resistance, protests are expected to be held in other major cities like Ibadan and Port Harcourt.
