EF English Proficiency Index has ranked Nigeria third best English-speaking country on the African continent and the 28th globally.
The most populous African country came behind South Africa which ranked first in Africa and 12th globally as well as East African country, Kenya which grabbed the second position, while ranking 20th globally.
The ranking was for countries seen as non-native English speaking nations.
In the ranking released November last year, only twenty African countries were graded.
Also contained in the ranking list are Ghana (41st globally and 4th in Africa), Uganda (55th globally and 5th in Africa) amongst others.
The Netherlands grabbed the number one spot globally, leaving Singapore with the second position.
The Education First English Proficiency Index (EF EPI) attempts to rank countries by the equity of English language skills amongst those adults who took the EF test.
The EF EPI 2022 edition was calculated using test data from 2.1 million test takers in 2021.
One hundred and eleven countries and territories appeared in the 2022 edition of the index.
A country is required to have at least 400 test takers to be considered for inclusion in the ranking.
