The Federal Government of Nigeria has adopted a new name for its Ministry Ministry of Aviation. It is now to be known as the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace of Nigeria.
The new name was communicated on Wednesday by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, in Abuja, shortly after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the Minister, the change in name has become crucial because aviation is on exclusive list and can only be legislated upon by the federal government.
Sirika further explained that the future of aviation had experienced an advancement, such that aviation and aerospace were intertwined.
He stated that Nigeria had the need to proactively set its policies to align with future occurrence in the sector.
This development he noted is largely responsible for the establishment of the African Aerospace and Aviation University sited in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
This comes amidst uncertainty on whether the proposed Nigerian Air will become operational before the end of the current administration on May 29.
The Minister had repeatedly assured that the national carrier will fly before the end of the current administration, an assurance beclouded in doubt barely two weeks for a new government to come on board.
Last month, Sirika assured Nigerians that Nigeria Air, which has been embroiled in controversy.
The Nigeria Air project was launched amid fanfare in 2018. The Nigerian government promised to establish a national carrier to compete with other successful African airlines.
