There are indications that Nigeria will in 2025 take on Russia in a friendly match.
Though, no confirmation has come from either the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) or Russia Football Federation (RFF), a FIFA agent Jairo Pachon claimed that talks are ongoing.
Russian journalist Bartlomiej Banasiew speaking via his social media handle quoted Pachon as saying, “Our representatives are cooperating with the Russia Football Federation on the organisation of a friendly match between Russia and Nigeria. This match is about as good as it gets.”
The date and venue of the game is expected to be announced soon if arrangements are concluded.
Should the match hold, it will be the first between Nigeria and Russia at the senior level.
At the moment, Nigeria’s senior men national team, the Super Eagles, are engaged in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier for the 2025 continental soccer fiesta.
The most populous country leads Group D with seven points, followed closely by Benin Republic on six points, with Rwanda and Libya on two points apiece.
After beating Libya 1-0 in Uyo on Friday, Nigeria will be away for the return leg tie on Tuesday October 15, 2024.
