Nigeria and other African nations will be hoping to eventually find their way to the 2024 Olympics in Paris when they face-off in the upcoming FIBA Pre-Olympics qualifier between August 12 and 20, 2023.
According to FIBA, the latest draw has pitched Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team against their counterparts in Senegal, Mali and Uganda in group A.
Group B consists of Tunisia, Cameroon, DR Congo, and Guinea.
The organisers revealed that the Pre-Qualifying tournament route was created for teams who failed to qualify for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
Nigeria had featured in the last three editions of the sporting fiesta in 2012 (London), 2016 (Rio) and 2020 (Tokyo).
The pre-qualifying rules states that the winners of each FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament will line up at one of next July’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, with the winners of those clinching spots for Paris 2024.
