A suspected terrorist whose name could not be ascertained on Monday, blew himself with an improvised explosive device (IED), in an attempt to avoid being captured alive by security operatives.
The incident occurred at Keke community in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, after a joint team of policemen, personnel of the Department of State Security Services, and soldiers surrounded the suspects apartment where they were engaged in a gun battle.
While full details have not been disclosed, sources said the victim has been on the wanted list of security agents, who trailed him to the apartment in the Keke community in Chikun local government where he has been on the hide.
Sensing that the security operatives were closing in on him, the suspected terrorist committed suicide with an IED, the source disclosed.
The victim’s charred body was evacuated by the security agents, while his wife and children were whisked away for further investigation.
Among items recovered in the hideout include, an AK-47 rifle, two other live explosive devices which were later safely detonated by the anti-bomb squad of the Kaduna State Police Command.
