Nigeria’s team has arrived Lome, Togo, ahead of the 2024 WAFU- B U20 tournament which kicks off on Thursday, October 18.
Heritage Times HT reports that the Nigerian delegation made up of players and officials departed for the neighbouring West African Nation earlier on Tuesdayni through the Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Their departure followed the team’s final phase of preparation at Remo Stars training complex in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The traveling contingent includes a 20-man squad, Coaching crew, other backroom staff alongside officials of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Nigerian U20 team mostly known as the Flying Eagles are the defending champions of the tournament.
They are drawn in Group B alongside Cote d’ivoire and Burkina Faso.
Nigeria will face the Burkina faso team in their opening match of the campaign on Friday, October 18 at the Municipal Stadium in Lome with the kick off set at 3pm local time.
Hosts Togo will battle Ghana, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic in Group A of the competition that is scheduled for October 17 to 31 in Lome, the Togolese capital city.
The WAFU B U20 serves as the qualifying tournament for 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, from where the top-placed four teams will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at next year’s FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Chile.
Two teams that will reach WAFU B final will qualify for Africa U20 AFCON.
