Rail tracks for the Kaduna-Abuja train services were on Wednesday evening blown up by explosives planted on the tracks by yet to be identified persons.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engineer Fidet Okhiria said efforts are ongoing to restore the train services along that route.
“Yes, there was an explosive on our rail track somewhere around Rijana and Dutse last night, and this damaged the tracks,” the NRC boss told Tribuneonline.
“Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure that the train services along the Kaduna-Abuja route are fully restored,” he added.
When asked if there were gunshots aimed at the train driver and the tank of the train, the NRC MD stated that “There was nothing like that. Only an explosive that went up on the track.
“Are you aware that we even ran a train service this morning? There was nothing like shooting at the train by bandits. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure full train services are restored along that route.
A former Kaduna Central Senator disclosed that the Kaduna-Abuja train he boarded ran into a portion damaged by explosives used by terrorists in attacking a Kaduna-Abuja train on Wednesday.
In a tweet, he alleged that the terrorists also opened fire on the engine driver and tank of the train.
“Yesterday, terrorists attacked the Kaduna-Abuja railway with an explosive and opened fire on the train, targeting the engine driver and the tank.
“This morning, I was on board when our train ran over another explosive damaged rail track. It took a miracle for us to escape,” Sani tweeted.
