Civil Servants in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, who have no proof of COVID-19 vaccination and negative PCR tests were denied access into the Federal Secretariat on Wednesday morning.
The Nigerian Government had earlier in October warned that civil servants who are yet to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus would not be allowed into public offices.
Following the announcement, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria pleaded with the Nigerian Government to extend the deadline till March next year.
This directive comes on the heels of the announcement made by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC ) on Wednesday morning, of the discovery of the first case of Omicron variant of COVID -19 in the country.
The NCDC said the variant was found among travellers from South Africa after the genomic sequencing of positive cases from a routine day two test conducted at the National Reference Laboratory (NRL), Abuja.
