Zamfara State Governorship hopeful Abdulmalik Garba Gajam has formally declared his intention to contest for the highest public office in the state under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Gajam made the declaration when he featured in Thunder Blowers TV Show “Tirka-Tirka.”
According to him, the decision to contest for the much-coveted seat of the state governor under the APC was hinged on the party’s popularity among the good people of Zamfara state, especially the masses.
“If you look at the historical precedent since 1999 APP/ANPP have been the leading party and by 2013 it was the ANPP that collapsed into the All Progressive Congress (APC) and since that period it has been the same party that has been winning election in Zamfara state.
“PDP has always been the party of the rich and most influential people in Zamfara and that is why it doesn’t win elections because its ideologies and manifestations are always disconnected with the masses”.
Gajam went on to note that “even the former Governor Mahmuda Shibkafi who defect to the PDP after the 2007 election had been defeated eventually by the masses and same thing with Matawalle, especially his first two years after 2019. So, we have to go for the winning party which popular among the majority of the Zamfara populace”.
When asked if he considered the possibility of contesting for the 2023 guber polls under another party, Gajam said the APC was bettered positioned to win elections in the state.
Responding to the question of what faction he belonged to in the APC, Gajam affirmed that he belongs to the faction of the masses, adding that he would not back down from the race.
“I will face the seating Governor and any other person who is contesting for the Governor for the primary elections of the party. I am determined and would not step down for anyone because it is a politics” he said.
