A former Nigeria National and West African light-heavyweight champion, Segun ‘Success’ Olanrewaju, has died after collapsing during a fight in Ghana.
The unfortunate incident, which captured Olanrewaju collapsing, was shared in a viral video.
Olanrewaju was battling against Ghanaian boxer Jon Mbanugu at the Ghana Professional Boxing League’s Fight Night 15 at Bukom Boxing Arena when he passed out.
Segun, a 40-year-old veteran of the sport, was participating in an undercard match on Ghana’s Professional Boxing League’s Fight Night 15 when the unimaginable happened.
Segun, known for his strong punches and resilient character, was reportedly ahead on points in a competitive but friendly bout with Mbanugu, dubbed “Power,” an Accra-born rising star in Ghanaian boxing.
Born in Lagos, the 40-year-old began his professional career in 2019, where he overcame Chukwuma Igwe in his first bout.
In his professional career, he recorded 13 wins, with 12 coming via knockouts, suffered eight defeats, and had two draws.
