Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has set a new world record of the longest cooking marathon after hitting 87 hours 50 minutes mark.
She displaces Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved the feat in 2019 with 87 hours 45 minutes record uninterrupted cooking.
If certified by the Guinness World Record, she will be the new world record holder of the “longest cooking marathon by an individual”.
The restaurateur began the competition on Thursday after she turned on her cooker at 4pm and surpassed the current world record holder on Monday morning.
She has set a 96-hour uninterrupted cooking for herself.
She is poised to hit her target at Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State with many Nigerians across the world cheering her.
The country’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo called on Sunday to cheer her up.
Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu also personally visited in show of solidarity.
The chef won the maiden edition of the Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, pocketing a grand prize of $5000.
